Education in China

Summary
  • Education in China focuses its class curriculum 60-70% on mathematics.
  • The Chinese school system is divided into 4 parts: You'er Yuan (elementary school), Chu Zhong (middle school), Gao Zhong (high school), and lastly college.
  • The Chinese government does not have enough financial resources to support everyone, so it creates a selective system based on who is worth having education.
  • At the end of elementary, middle, or high school, the child has to take an entrance exam before advancing to the next level
  • The decision of where the child can go to school and how many financial resources the government is willing to invest on a child depends on the test score.
  • The student will not pick his major, but it will be chosen for from his/her test score.
  • If the child can enroll in a private school, then he can do whatever he wants regardless of the score
  • In the rural areas, the literacy rate is much higher comparing to urban cities. Within that number, the women are dominantly lower than the men.
  • Teachers are greatly respected in China
  • In the Chinese school system, it is okay to hit the child if he misbehaves.
  • Education in China is based strongly on books and foundation skills rather than on using the imagination and application of knowledge.

The education system in China has been praised for decade. Have you ever heard the phase "Asian people are smart," or "The Chinese people are so good in math." I have heard it plenty of times and guess what -- even I do not know Calculus that well.

In my theory, everyone (Western and Eastern) is equally stupid (maybe I should say "Smart" to make it sound little bit nicer).

To prove this theory, this article will have a debate at the end of the article, which I think I'm going to win, because there is no comment section on this site (hehe). But, you can contact me on my contact form.

Ok, let's start...
China education

To answer your question of why the Chinese people are smarter in math, I will say that the education of China concentrates 60-70% of its school curriculum on math. Since the day the child steps into school, the majority of subjects that he/she will study will be science and math.

Even though China is a powerful country, it does not have enough financial resources to provide free education for everyone. Over time, China created a selective system that will only provide education to children with the brightest minds. In turn, if the kid wants to have a future, he has to force himself to study.

Let me explain the system so you could have a better understanding of it. To start, the education level is similar to the system in the West, for instance: You'er Yuan (elementary school), Chu Zhong (middle school), Gao Zhong (high school), and college.

The schools in China normally have two semesters each yea and five and a half (half day on Saturday) days of school each week.
