A Chinese Story for Happy Mother Day

Happy Mother day, Everybody

Mother's Day is only a couple of hours away and so I thought I should dedicate this article to all the moms. This article will be different than the others, since I will concentrate on a story that I heard about three to four years ago.

Have you got your cookies and tea ready? Okay then, shall we begin?

In the early years of China, when the nation was still divided into six countries, war was a commodity. As a result, the army was always enlisting people into the military. The method of enlisting was much different during that time period than today. When the people were drafted into the army, it was by force. The term of service ranged from six years to the time of death.

During that time in a small village, a newlywed was forced to separate from her husband when he was unfortunately drafted. Little did he know that nine months later his wife gave birth to a baby boy.

As the child grew older, he started to ask about his father. The mother could not find any simple explanation to give her little boy. One night, out of desperation and not wanting to disappoint her son, she pointed to her own shadow reflected on the wall and said, "Child, look your father has come! Why don't you go play with him?" It was at that point that she became the father of the child as she tried to please the boy.

After three long years, the war was over and her husband was released from the army. As he approached home, his wife came running out with open arms and held him tight. The husband began to cry onto his wife's skinny shoulder like rain drops, the loving woman who had waited for him. She then brought out the boy to look at his father for the first time. The boy looked into his father's eyes and naively said, "You're not my dad. My dad only comes to see me at night."

Out of jealousy and anger, the husband immediately turned around and walked out the door without a glance back. Again the wife waited. Two weeks went by, then 3 weeks passed. Finally her broken heart could wait no longer. She walked off a cliff and cast herself down.

Few days later, her clueless husband finally calmed down enough to go back home. When he got there, he tried to find his wife but could not find her anywhere, so he sat and played with his child. Once the sun had set, the husband started to light the candle. When the candle was lit, the boy immediately shouted excitedly, "Daddy." When the husband turned around, he saw the child pointing to his shadow on the wall with a smile on his face.

The husband felt regretful when he realized that he was wrong about his wife. With tears in his eyes, he went out in the middle of the night trying to find her. By the next day, he found her body at the bottom of the cliff. In honor of the memory of his wife and as a reminder to his son of his mother's image, the husband carved a statue of his wife right next to the cliff.

Until today, some people claim that they have found that statue still in existence in China. Sorry, I don't know if that is a fact.

I think this story best describes all the unsung sacrifices that moms and wives have endured through the years for their families. I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to my mom and to all the moms out there. I wish you have a wonderful Mother's Day.

To all the guys out there who still don't know what to do for his mother or wife or who still try to use the excuse of "I just don't know what to give" or "I don't know understand what women want," I would like share a quote with you from Oscar Wilde,

"A woman is meant to be loved, not to be understood."

So relax and enjoy. Then again, she probably loves you more if you go "Jared," because, "every kiss begins with Kay." (Hehe). From where I am and wherever you are, have a wonderful night everybody
