What is Feng Shui?

Since Feng Shui is a huge subject, personally I do not have much knowledge to give advice. However, I will just tell you the basic of feng shui and what it is in this article. On this subject you will only need to know the basic understanding of the subject instead an in depth knowledge because even you do not care about it, the Chinese native and business do.

Let's start with the basic, shall we?

Chinese culture

Let's talk about Feng Shui. Feng means wind and Shui mean water. The practice of Feng Shui had been in Chinese culture for thousands of years. This refers to the influence in nature environment affects human life, family, relationship, and fortune. Feng Shui also refer to a human being should keep balance within themselves and universe.

Going back into history; Feng Shui came from Daoism, which was found by the Laozi. In Laozi's theory, the universe was creating on the force called "qi." Within "qi", there are two main elements and five sub-forces as well. The two main elements are Yin, the negative energy; and Yang, the positive force. The five sub forces are water, earth, metal, fire, and wood. A Feng Shui expert will cooperate all of these into an individual. If this is done right, Feng Shui can improve one fortune, and other aspects of their lives such as love, luck and even a son.

How is it done, you may ask? A Feng Shui expert will arrange building, room, office, furniture, and everything else around you in order to balance you with the universe. Some of the most basic Feng Shui that you may notice is when you walk into a Chinese restaurant you always sees a pond of water and gold fish (meaning plenty) at the entrance. The meaning to this is that there will be plenty of customers or money coming into the business.

Or, in every Chinese market you will see a creature that looks like a lion right in front of the store. The statue's job is to believe that they are keep out/ scare away the bad luck and lost soul from bother the business.

Did you know?

It just Chinese business men believe in Feng Shui, but also in the West as well. A perfect example is Donald Trump, who is a big believer in Feng Shui. As you know, Trump loves to put gold on everything that he owned, but when you looking at his hotel name plate it is not cover in gold, because according to Feng Shui expert, the gold name plate is consider bad for the business.

If you have chance to visit the Trump hotel, you will see the name plate painted in silver and not gold. Now you know.

Welcome to another history lesson...

If I have not convince you how important Feng Shui is, then this section of China history will. In 1997, the government of China planned to open an airport in Hong Kong. The plan was to make it to be one the major airport in Asia. After the government has finished with the plan, many people opposed the idea because the location that the government pick was to be said to bring bad luck and disaster to the country. As you already know about the Communist, they ignored the people and went ahead with the plan anyway. (hehe, I know it is a very cheap shot)

Fast forward to one year later 1998; East Asia was falling into the economic crisis and Hong Kong was hit badly. Who the people blame for the downfall? You guess it, the government. People blamed the government on the reason of bringing the bad luck into Hong Kong by ruining the good Feng Shui.

Some people actually accused the government did this on purpose because the government wants Shanghai to replace Hong Kong as an economic capital in China. This is just a theory, and has not been proving to be true.

Conclusion...

Now, do you see my point? Even if you are careless about Feng Shui, please, do try to acknowledge it. Chinese business people are big believers in Feng Shui. Before the people do anything, they will consult a Feng Shui expert. Anything from the date to open for business to what time is a good to sign a deal. This is one of the reasons why you should never be late when doing business with the Chinese people. If you miss the "lucky" time or date, then some Chinese will not be willing to do business until another date have been pick out by the Feng Shui expert.

Thank you joining me today. Hope that you have learned something new during your visit. Thank you for your support. From where I am and wherever you are, have a good night and good luck on everything that you do.
